Linux Fundamentals
Description
This hands-on course is designed to provide the skills needed to gain an understanding of standard LINUX applications, shell commands, and system utilities that are used for routine tasks including: installation, use and basic troubleshooting procedures - all of which are necessities to successfully administer the LINUX Operating System. Bourn Again Shell (BASH) programming is introduced to learners, who will be able to read, backup, restore and modify existing configuration files and shell scripts. This will also enable learners to create their own shell scripts which allows for efficient system administration. The X Window System (a.k.a. Graphical User Interface) is introduced from a user’s perspective, including configuration of the user’s environment (GNOME) and how to use several standard X Window System client utility programs such as OpenOffice (a free alternative to Microsoft Office, Firefox (a fast and secure web browser) and gnome-terminal (allows users to execute commands using a real Linux shell while still remaining on their graphical desktop).
