Introduction to Oracle SQL and SQL Plus
Description
This is an introductory course designed to answer questions about databases. This course begins with basic fundamental terminology and discusses why the use of a database is preferred over a spreadsheet. After introducing the basic terminology and commands used in Oracle, tables are created, data is entered into the table and the tables are saved. Once this is completed the data is retrieved and manipulated in various forms to retrieve specific report information. Specific formatting of the resulting data is discussed to produce reports in various formats. Database security is discussed as well.
During this course, learners will:
• Write and utilize various basic SQL statements
• Create and manage tables
• Manipulate data within a table
• Restrict and sort data from tables
• Write commands to display data from multiple tables
• Combine data using group functions
• Write single column and multiple column subqueries
• Produce readable output with SQL queries
• Define constraints so that specific data is inserted into or extracted from a database table
• Create views, sequences and indexes
• Control user access to databases
Learning Outcome
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Become familiar with the SQL commands required to create tables, insert data into the tables and then manipulate the data to produce various reports.
- Extensive hands-on experience using command line entry of information and data.
