A Leader in Training Technology

Welcome to the National Center for Employee Development (NCED), a world-class training, learning, and conferencing facility, centrally located in America's Heartland, Norman, Oklahoma.

NCED is a self-contained, living-and-learning center, offering training and conference services to agencies and business groups from across the nation. The extensive use of high-technology, computerized equipment in all areas of business creates continuing needs for advanced technical training and job-proficiency training for the work force. The National Center for Employee Development delivers beyond its resident classrooms through its national distance learning networks, including live satellite broadcasts. Computer, video, and Internet technology are also used to deliver critical training.

NCED's history began with its establishment in 1969. During its first full year of operation (1970), NCED served 7,000 United States Postal Service students in three training programs. All students were housed in the top few floors of the University of Oklahoma's Couch Tower.

Today, the main NCED campus at NCED is a 72-acre, postal-owned site at 24th and Imhoff Road in Norman, Oklahoma. Although the Postal Service is still NCED's biggest customer, whose employees attend job skills and information training, we also welcome other businesses and groups.

We offer training for technicians, mechanics, computer specialists, managers, and many others. We can also bring our training programs to your location through on-site instruction, distance-learning networks, and satellite broadcasts.

Over 220,000 students now train annually in the more than 500 courses offered by NCED. Course lengths range from 2 hours to 6 weeks, and are taught in a variety of settings ranging from intimate seminars to hands-on laboratory work. The average course runs from five to ten days. All courses are offered throughout the year, with an average year holding over 3,535 course offerings.

The NCED staff is composed of training experts and administrators working for the Postal Service and contracting through the University of Oklahoma. The NCED Training Facility is supported by workers contracted through Trax. Housing and food services are managed by the Marriott Corporation.

Conferences and meetings are also an NCED specialty. The campus offers two state-of-the-art conference facilities that can comfortably accommodate almost any group. For more information visit conference services.

The Main Training Building is a 293,000 square-foot building designed specifically for training. It contains 45 classrooms and 23 labs, along with administration offices, distance-learning studios, and broadcast booths. It also features a 6,480 square foot Conference Center that can accommodate 450 conferees. The Conference Center can also be divided into two to six breakout rooms. Each conference room features high-tech integrated audio-visual equipment, and facilities specialists are always on-site to assist with any audio-visual needs.

The NCED Housing Facility sits adjacent to Main Training Building. The six-story, 445,000 square foot facility houses our 974 guest rooms and Conference Hall. The 8,928 square foot Conference Hall comfortably accommodates up to 850 conferees, and it can be divided into as many as seven smaller rooms. Four other breakout rooms are also available in the Conference Hall. For more information visit conference services.

A food court, lounge, fitness center, and gift shop are also located in the Housing Facility, along with a variety of study rooms, game rooms, and a health clinic.

Freshly prepared foods are offered in a variety of combinations at the facility's two on-site cafeterias. Both the Housing Facility Food Court and the NCED Cafeteria provide food and services to students, faculty, and staff of the NCED and to conference attendees. All meals are "All You Wish To Eat," so don't forget the dessert.

The extensive use of high-technology, computerized equipment to process and deliver the nation's mail creates continuing needs for advanced technical training and job-proficiency training for the Service's workforce.

The National Center for Employee Development delivers beyond its resident classrooms through its national distance learning networks, including live satellite broadcasts. Computer, video, and internet technology are also used to deliver critical training to postal employees and other business groups.
